My experience and style

What to expect

Who am I?
I began cycle touring in the late 80’s with a trip to Andalucia in Spain. Since then I have toured most years, mainly in the UK and Europe but also NZ, Australia and Canada and I have organized and led over 20 tours.  I ride with a local club and compete in cyclo-cross events. I work as a Bikeability Instructor, mostly in Schools, hopefully inspiring the next generation of cyclists. I speak fairly fluent French and Spanish. My partner Darrell assists on all my tours
My tour leading style
Darrell and I usually ride one towards the front and one at the back of the group for those that want to ride together. Our aim is for everyone to enjoy the cycling and company and not worry about getting lost or left behind.  We always provide GPS tracks so people can do their own thing and ride alone or with a smaller group if they prefer.
The roads I take
I often organise trips to mountainous areas where sightseeing is mostly from the saddle.  The scenery, the challenge of climbing the hills and thrill of riding down the other side are what I enjoy the most. I like tours to be a challenge but still a holiday so I always aim to get to our overnight stop with time for a look round and a drink before the evening meal
I have led a couple of off road tours and would like to look into doing some more in the future
The places we stay
Where possible I try to use independent hotels on a half board basis. My annual Etape du Dales weekend is always based at Hawes Youth Hostel.
Where do I go?
Most of the European tours i have organised have been in France. Ferries are a particularly good way of transporting cyclists so i use these where possible. I have also done a number of UK tours including some recognised routes such as the South downs Way and the Way of the Roses
I lead both fixed based and moving on tours, supported and unsupported

Where have I been?

I have toured all over Europe with friends, many of these trips have been cycle camping, including the Pyrenean Traverse, Geneva to Nice, Sheffield to Barcelona and Basel to Venice.
I have also toured in New Zealand, Tasmania and Canada as well as all over the UK including LEJOG
